This is a great day for Marlovians everywhere!
Mr. D . . .
I give you so much credit for sticking with this theory; looks like it's going to really take off!
Do you hear the sound of Stratfordians panicking? Hey, whatever happened to the Oxfordians? It's fitting that the Anonymous movie was dead on arrival!!!!!
I enjoyed hearing Ms. Barber on the BBC Verb. Great website and I look forward to reading the book.
Stanley Wells vs. Ros Barber.
Takers, anyone?
Ms. Barber is a formidable debater. Marlovians vs. Stratfordians....university setting....debate.....our best vs. their best. Bring it on:)
Thanks. It's not only a delicious theory, but when you look at the evidence (what Marlowe was up against after his arrest, the faulty coroner's report, the similarities in style between Marlowe and Shakespeare and how Marlowe was "'Shakespearean"; the reality that he did know how to operate in the shadows as a spy for the Queen, etc.) it all makes sense. Great to see that Ros's amazing book will provide a big stage for the Marlovian theory.
Look, it is a free country and you can mistake Shakespear for Marlow (can't spell it) but reminds me of time I took Ford's word for it at the Lilas and embarassed myself mistakeing Crowley the diabolist for Belloc, be careful.
Given their success with Hilary Mantel's Wolf Hall in 2009, I cannot imagine that Sceptre won't have entered this (as they had to have done by now) for this year's enormously prestigious Man-Booker prize. Having been lucky enough to be able to read The Marlowe Papers several times already I do hope so, because I really believe that it has a great chance of reaching their 12-strong longlist (to be announced in July) at the very least.
